HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) — A suspect in a drive-by shooting was shot dead by deputies after a brief chase in northwest Harris County.
Harris County Pct. A police officer responded to Cora’s 11100 block around 3:20 a.m. Monday about a possible shooting from inside the car.
At the scene, deputies reportedly discovered a vehicle with blacked-out windows.
As the deputies approached, the vehicle took off, sparking a chase, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The chase ended in an accident about six miles north at the Beltway and Veterans Memorial.
After the crash, the suspect, who investigators said was armed, got out and ran.
At one point, he started firing his gun, Gonzalez said.
That’s when two Pct. 1 deputy and two deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office returned fire, investigators said.
The suspect was hit and pronounced dead at the scene. No MP was injured.
First responders could be heard trying to get help for the suspect over radio traffic after the shooting.
“Weapon secured. Man’s down. None of our boys are hurt. None of our boys are hurt. I need EMS at this crime scene,” said one MP.
Investigators recovered a gun at the scene, Gonzalez said.
“The first call was a shootout from the car. There are no reports of injuries at this location. We don’t know if they shot at the house or just in the air. We don’t know,” Gonzalez said. “That will also be part of the investigation. But from that first scene that we know of, no one was hurt.”
Several authorities will conduct investigations into the fatal shooting, including the public prosecutor’s office.
