Susanna Reid slammed Boris Johnson and Number 10 after Downing Street was accused of breaking its own strict Covid rules with a series of parties last winter.

Dozens of staff members in the building are said to have been ‘irritated’ at two festive gatherings, according to Daily Mirror.

The Prime Minister is said to have delivered a speech at a crowded time to serve as a key aide last November – despite the country being in the midst of a second shutdown.

Speaking at Boris on Good Morning Britain, Susanna said: ‘When people look at the Prime Minister and Number 10, and think ‘You’ve made the rules it means all of that has happened and you’re not spontaneous. I obey them”, that’s what’s annoying. ‘

Then, with London following the ‘Tier 3’ rule a few days before Christmas, key members of his team held their own informal carnival party in the building – in an event that was considered a ‘Covid nightmare’.

Meeting the Prime Minister on Good Morning Britain earlier this morning, Susanna spoke of those who have had to go through loss and time away from their loved ones.

“Members of the public, and those on this show, have come across limitations and what that means,” she said.

‘When people look at the Prime Minister and Number 10 and think ‘You’ve made the rules and you yourself don’t follow them’, that’s what upsets you. “

The presenter also echoed her criticisms on Twitter, saying: ‘The bottom line about the Christmas party was that last year we weren’t allowed to gather, when the people at Number 10 were going ahead.

‘They were allowed this Christmas but the rules were very strict a year ago before widespread vaccination and people were desperate not to be together. “

The official Number 10 staff Christmas party is said to have been cancelled, but the act of leaving is believed to have taken place on 27 November and the unofficial Christmas party, which the Prime Minister did not attend , on December 18 – after London moved to the third tier of local restrictions.

Rumors of a third, smaller gathering the night top aide Dominic Cummings went out, on November 13, are believed to have involved ‘all fully subpoenaed’ staff.

Metro.co.uk has approached Downing Street about the latest allegations, following Mr Johnson says Christmas parties should not be cancelled despite concerns about the new Omicron variant.

But a spokesman did not deny the claims to the Mirror, and stated: ‘Covid rules are always followed.’

Good Morning Britain airs at 6am on weekdays on ITV.
