Forecasters said a weather system is expected to produce damaging winds Friday over much of New Mexico as well as rain, with snow expected in higher mountain regions. The National Weather Service issued a warning for high winds of up to 40 mph (64 km/h) Friday night for eastern New Mexico from Mexico in the south to Colorado in the north. Winds can knock down trees, power poles and power lines, the warning said, leading to widespread power outages and making travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. High winds are also forecast for many mountain ranges across the state.
