A cloud of mystery fueled conspiracy theories on social media near Lazy Mountain, Alaska on Thursday.
Meteor, Russian missile, plane crash and UFO were among the explanations for an eerily towering cloud streak with finger-like trails.
A rescue team sent to search for a crash on Lazy Mountain found nothing suspicious, Alaska State Troopers reported.
“Not sure what, but it looked cool,” Heather Isackson wrote on Facebook.
“Further investigation revealed that a large airliner was flying in the area at about the time the photos and video were taken. The aircraft was contacted and reported normal flight operations en route to JFK Airport in New York,” the Alaska State Troopers wrote on Facebook.
“Soldiers believe the photos and video showed a vapor trail from the airliner combined with the rising sun, which combined to create the unique atmospheric sight. We appreciate the numerous Alaskans who reported the suspicious sight to law enforcement this morning,” they added.
