Ireland floods injure one person
Impacts include flooding of 23 properties in Bantry in Co Cork, several more in Galway and in Cork.
There has been one report of one person injured in the southwest of the country, although it remains unclear if this is related to the storm.
Emergency financial assistance will be provided to businesses damaged by Storm Barra, which will not be affected by the support in place for those affected by Covid-19 restrictions.
Schools, colleges and arcades in some of the worst-affected areas were closed amid warnings that no part of the island would escape the storm’s effects.
The Education Minister, Norma Foley, will make an announcement later on Tuesday on whether schools will be closed for a second day on Wednesday.
Minister O’Brien said people in red and orange grant zones should not travel for vaccinations.
“We’re saying these people especially in the red areas should stay at home, don’t leave the house, and let people not make non-essential travel in other areas,” he said.
