A boy who collapsed on his way to school died despite passers-by trying to save his life.
The schoolboy, who has yet to be named, was given a ‘medical emergency’ just before 9am on Tuesday in Tunstall, a suburb of Stoke-on-Trent.
It is thought he was on his way to nearby St Margaret Ward Catholic Academy but collapsed on Furlong Road.
Bystanders ran to help and he was put in a recovery position, according to reports.
Paramedics arrived to find him in critical condition and took him to Royal Stoke University Hospital, but he later died.
People have left words of gratitude for the boy online after learning the news.
One said: ‘Death itself is hard to deal with, but when it’s your own I can’t imagine what this poor boy’s family must go through, for his precious loss. surname. It must be hell. Too young. Devastated.
‘My thoughts and prayers go out to the boy’s family and friends. Rest in peace, my dear. ‘
Another added: ‘This is heartbreaking. Poor boy. My thoughts are with his family and friends and all that is known about him. Rest in peace.’
A parent whose child attends the same school is frustrated: ‘It’s so heartbreaking. My daughter in the form of a boy. RIP little man, think of your family and friends. ‘
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to a ‘medical emergency’ just before 9am.
A spokesman said: ‘Two ambulances, a paramedic and a BASICS emergency doctor have arrived at the scene.
‘On arrival we found one patient, a young boy, in critical condition, he had been transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. “
Staffordshire Police declined to comment as it involved a ‘sudden unsuspecting death’.
