Steve Harvey once again landed in hot water while on duty as host for the Miss Universe pageant.
No, he don’t crown the wrong winner (again) – he asked for a competitor instead*check notes * make animal sounds?
Whatever you think of these pageants, arguably the most displeased people were that the other contestants vying for the huge crown were asked about their achievements while Miss India was dropped. fall like a cat.
Speaking to Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu before the stage over the weekend, Harvey surprised the contestant by asking: ‘I heard you’re pretty good at impersonating animals. Listen to your best quote. ‘
Sandhu replied: ‘Oh my, Steve, I didn’t expect to do this on the world stage.’
You and us too.
However, she gave her best and in the spirit of the competition she said: ‘I have to do this, I have no choice.’
After explaining that she loves cats and conveniently pretends to be one, Sandhu tells the audience to ‘brave in’, before sharing some (quite impressive, if we say so ourselves) ) meows right into Harvey’s microphone.
It was an entertaining moment for sure, but viewers were a bit sad that the other contestants were asked about their stellar performance and were not allowed to make a fuss.
Meanwhile, Miss Panama Brenda Smith talked about her place at the UN, while Miss UK Emma Collingridge discussed a thesis on the origin story of the mythical figure Medusa and how it inspired it. for her to fight against gender-based violence.
The thing is, it clearly made no difference when Sandhu was finally crowned Miss Universe, after using the platform to talk about climate change (when she wasn’t meowed).
However, that hasn’t stopped experts online from criticizing the question, with many wondering what Harvey was up to.
Sarakshi Rai wrote on Twitter: ‘OMG Miss India meow with Steve Harvey is not what I expected to see tonight. Pretty sure the Miss Universe organization could have asked a better question… it’s frustrating but she’s nothing without confidence. [sic]. ‘
Another raged: ‘It’s ridiculous that #HarnaazSandhu is asked to meow on stage but that boy that girl is confident in adrenaline…!!’
‘Why does f**k ya make Miss India meow like a cat in front of everyone but pose solid questions to all the other contestants? ” one Twitter user wrote after this point.
Others were impressed she won the title after the meow moment, as one reacted: ‘Even after they meowed on live TV, she still won. Congratulations Miss India. ‘
At the event on Sunday night in Eliat, Israel, Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira was named runner-up, followed by Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane.
