BALTIMORE (WJZ) – The increasingly public feud between Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby and Governor Larry Hogan continued on Tuesday as Mosby accused the governor of criticizing Baltimore and its leaders to score political points.
Mosby held a news conference Tuesday to share a decade’s worth of data detailing which cases the State Attorney’s Office chose not to prosecute. It was apparently in response to statements Hogan made last month when he threatened to freeze agency funding if it didn’t release the data.
In November, the governor threatened to withhold funding for Mosby’s office if he did not receive data to evaluate her office’s work, but Mosby said that the data is always available and has been sent to the governor. directed an open letter with 30 pages of data.
Mosby also hinted that Hogan’s refusal to meet with her and other black leaders of the city was not only nullifying but racist.
“The governor has been coming to see me for seven years,” Mosby said Tuesday. “He continues the relentless attacks of the dog whistling about the Baltimore crime… His actions are purely political.
Mosby also requested an audit to take a closer look at state agencies like the Department of Juvenile Services, arguing that the governor’s mismanagement of these agencies is driving crime up.
She used the example of a suspect in the November murder of church volunteer Evelyn Player.
“Any city problem can be solved at the doorstep of the state agencies he oversees,” says Mosby. “Despecially in light of the multitude of red flags and mental health issues, the governor’s state agency has downsized state oversight of this violent repeat offender. “
The governor of Fox News on Sunday said part of the problem was Marilyn Mosby.
“We have a prosecutor in the city of Baltimore that refuses to prosecute violent criminals and that is the root of the problem,” Hogan said on the cable news network. ”
Mosby said the governor refused to meet city leaders, blaming them.
“During his time in office, he blamed the mayor, police commissioner, judge, city council and even state legislature for the crimes in the city of Baltimore,” Mosby said.
In response to Mosby’s words today, the governor’s spokesman said: “This is so sad at this point — for her, for the city, for the state.”
The mayor’s office told WJZ Mayor Scott and Governor Hogan planned to meet this week to talk about the city’s violence, but the plan was shelved due to Hogan’s COVID-19 infection. The meeting is scheduled to take place before the end of January.
