St. John’s disappointing regular season ended in defeat and it will now take a championship run in the Big East Tournament to make the Big Dance.
The Red Storm finished the regular season with a disappointing 16-14 (8-11 Big East) after losing 85-77 to Marquette on Saturday night in Milwaukee.
Dylan Addae-Wusu was an unexpected force off the bench for the Johnnies, scoring 19 points and Julian Champagnie contributing 15, but it wasn’t enough for Mike Anderson’s side. Justin Lewis scored 29 points for the Golden Eagles (19-11, 11-8).
St. John’s, No. 7 in the Big East Tournament, meets No. 10 DePaul at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the Garden. The Johnnies suffered a loss to DePaul (99-94) in Chicago last Sunday.
Marquette secured No. 5, winning in the first round and meeting No. 4 Creighton in the second round at 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Thursday.
