Sony buys Bungie for $3.6 billion

Sony today announced that it will buy Destiny producer Bungie for $3.6 billion.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the Destiny franchise will remain diverse.

Upon completion of the deal, Bungie will remain a cross-platform studio that can “self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play”.

In a blog post about the acquisition, Bungie said the deal won’t affect creative plans for Destiny until the end of its current story (scheduled for 2024) and the opener. Beyond Destiny 2, Bungie has this to say about whether future games will become PlayStation exclusives: “No. We want the world we’re creating to expand to any place. We’ll continue to be self-published, creatively independent, and we’ll continue to foster a unified Bungie community.”
