LEEDS, England (Reuters) – United’s fears of relegation in the Premier League intensified after they suffered a 4-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Having conceded 16 goals in their last four games, Leeds have clearly failed to resolve their defensive problems ahead of Spurs’ trip, and any game plan they come up with is out of the loop within 15 minutes when Matt Doherty and Dejan Kulusevski put Spurs into a 2-0 lead .

Harry Kane scored his third goal in the 27th minute, making Leeds only the second team in Premier League history to concede three or more goals in five consecutive games in the competition, after Sunderland in November 2005.

Son Heung-min completed the finish late in the game, after a favorable pass from Kane.

Their fifth defeat in the last six against Leeds leaves them 15th in the table, just three points behind the bottom three, having played three more games than Burnley in 18th.

Spurs’ second straight win put Antonio Conte’s side ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers in seventh place in the table.

It was all too easy for Spurs from the start, as Ryan Sessegnon squared for Doherty to score his first goal of the tournament for Spurs – and the first for anyone since March 2020 – before Kulusevski capitalized on it. Leeds backline, who blocked him when he shot into the net to silence Elland Road.

Robin Koch almost immediately put the hosts back up, but his effort went wide of the post, just before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made a cross to allow Kane to score his eighth goal of the season.

Luke Ayling had another golden chance for Leeds before half-time but headed home.

Bielsa made two changes at the break but to no avail, as Leeds demanded a double save from Illan Meslier to prevent Spurs from scoring a fourth in the hour.

In the match against Leeds yesterday afternoon, Stuart Dallas somehow missed an opening goal late in the game, before Kane picked Son to complete the goal.

Kane and Son have now combined to score in the Premier League 37 times, surpassing Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard to become the most scoring duo in league history.

The final whistle sounded with boos as the home fans vented their disappointment at another crushing defeat.
