Snow will fall across Scotland on Wednesday before moving south, according to the Met Office’s five-day forecast.

Winter showers are then expected in the north on Thursday and Friday.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Thursday and through the weekend is likely to be cold in the north with wintry showers and a risk of snow along the edge of rain bands in the Midlands.

“Widespread frosts are expected in the north, with some freezing patches.”

They added that temperatures will be “closer to average” in the south, while heavy rains and high winds will move north next week.

Jim Dale, meteorologist for the British Weather Service, said express.co.uk: “There is still no sign of a return to the warm and sunny weather we saw in late March.

“Temperatures will move back towards average for the start of the week but this will be accompanied by more volatile conditions from the Atlantic.

“At this time of year, winter can strike again and again, well into April. Towards the end of the week it will be colder again and there is a risk of more snow.”

The Met Office said the weather today will be cloudy with rain, particularly in the west, while eastern areas will be dry and light.

Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud heaven Wintry weather will persist over the weekend but temperatures will rise on Monday as the Arctic air system moves away.

He said: “It’s generally dry and cold, if not a little less cold than it will be for the next few days.

“We’ve detected an arctic air current coming from a cold source at the moment.

“So we basically established cold clear air across the UK.

“There are also plenty of clear and sunny skies, particularly in the western parts of the UK.”
