Snoop Dogg joined the NELK Boys on their Full Send podcast and opened up about the viral moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards.
Will Smith took over the internet for days after slapping comedian Chris Rock in the face at the 2022 Academy Awards.
Smith appeared offended by a joke Rock made at the expense of actress Jada Pinkett Smith, and later yelled at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your friggin’ mouth!” after he returned to his seat.
The debacle was the hot topic of conversation on social media for weeks afterwards, and other big celebrities commented on Smith’s slap in the face – the most recent being rapper Snoop Dogg.
Snoop appeared on an April 20 episode of the YouTube group The NELK Boys’ Full Send podcast, in which he specifically described the situation as “tragic.”
“Who are you into on the site?” asked one of the co-hosts.
“Nobody,” Snoop replied. “With the Academy.”
“I’m actually cool with both of them,” he continued after being asked if he was friends with the two celebs. “I have no problems. I do not get it. I’m a spectator just like you. I haven’t even actually seen the Oscars. This isn’t my Sunday night TV special.”
The rapper said he was briefed on the situation by a friend who texted him about it and initially thought it was “fake.”
“The way he moved, I thought, ‘This isn’t real. But when I saw him talking in the crowd, I just thought, ‘This isn’t fake.'”
Smith has since resigned from the academy given the situation and formally apologized to Chris Rock, in which he claimed he was “out of line and I was wrong”.
Snoop’s take on the ordeal follows his humorous take on the Island Boys, whom he notably called “two fools in a pool”.
