SNL shows how addictive and irrational TikTok can be in new sketch

Sometimes you just can’t stop scrolling. Even if TikTok tells you.

There’s nothing more frustrating than sitting in your room, looking up at your watch, and realizing that you’ve scrolled on TikTok for the past three hours. And now Saturday night live made TikTok dive into a new sketch! With host and musical guests Billie Eilish, the late-night show that took us into the frustrated world of parents dealing with their kids on TikTok as well as the constant scrolling through the app. In the sketch, a father asks his children if they put their trash in the trash. In real childish fashion, they say yes but they’re obviously scrolling on TikTok.

From a nurse letting her patient die to a look at “the day in the life of a mother of eight boys”, it’s a wild ride into your FYP world on TikTok while also commenting. about the poor dad who just wants this trash out. He even went so far as to make a TikTok of his own begging his kids to do chores and still, all he gets is a “delete this” comment instead of his actual kid. doing what he asks.

What really worked about this sketch was just the constant need to scroll further even when the same creator appeared more than once. The thing about TikTok FYP is that it’s curated with you and what you watch frequently on the app. So that means some of the same creators will appear even if you don’t follow them. I personally wish this kid would follow the TikTok user who is doing acoustic covers of Flo Rida and Lil Wayne songs.

TikTok is addicting. You might be sitting on your phone at 12pm and suddenly it’s significantly later than you thought because you’ve been on TikTok for hours on end. In the case of this sketch, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, we’ve all been there. Just scroll continuously and skip our task. But then there’s also the frustrating side of growing old and realizing that you’re related to the dad just trying to get his kids to do some housework. Because if it were me? I would have taken the trash can up to my kid’s room and said “okay, get it out now” but then maybe just joined in watching some TikTok.
