Skyrim Grandma Shirley Opens Up About Life After Stroke: ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’

Skyrim’s grandma Shirley opened up about her life after suffering a stroke and shared words of encouragement with concerned fans while unwrapping a care package from Bethesda.

The beloved YouTuber recently revealed that the stroke caused her to lose her memories, mostly related to the game she spends day and night playing, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. But that hasn’t stopped the “Gaming Grandma” from loading into the game she loves.

Her stroke scared many in the Elder Scrolls community, who sent Shirley words of encouragement. Even the studio behind the iconic franchise sent her a care kit to unwrap when she gets better.

During the unboxing, Grandma Shirley provided a heartwarming update for her audience, which has come a long way in reassuring fans of her status.

Shirley has medical professionals like therapists and doctors looking after her, so she’s mostly fine after the stroke.

“I’m fine except for these few little things I don’t remember,” she said. “And most of that is finally over and I can remember now. Except when playing Skyrim.

“I don’t know why, unless it was what I played every day and played it off camera every day for several years. It was the biggest thing in my life. And while I slept, of course, that had to be the only thing being beaten.”

Though her memories are mostly coming back, she said much of her memory of Skyrim has yet to come back. But she doesn’t wait for her return.

“Even if I don’t get my memories back on how to play this game, it doesn’t matter because I can start Skyrim over again and work with what I know,” she said.

“None of you give up on me, because everything will be fine. I said it, I believe it.”

With the help of her son’s extensive Skyrim notes to follow, Shirley is confident and eager to get back into TES:V. Even if that means starting from scratch.

“Maybe one day, soon, I’ll start all over again with Skyrim,” Shirley said. “With a new character. Start the story over and see how it goes. I hope you’re coming with me.” Skyrim Grandma Shirley Opens Up About Life After Stroke: ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’
