Skate 4 microtransactions will not be pay-to-win or have gameplay-changing benefits

Full Circle surprised players today with the reveal skate.the game formerly known as skate 4 will actually be a new free-to-play game and will contain microtransactions that will not involve pay-to-win mechanics or have “gameplay-changing benefits”. The game is currently targeting PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and PC, and even a mobile version is planned. However, there was no mention of Nintendo Switch.

Skate 4 does not pay for winning microtransactions

As to be expected from the free-to-play game formerly known as Skate 4, Skate. will have microtransactions. As explained in the latest Board Room video, the microtransactions are based around cosmetics, seasonal drops, and live events, but never include pay-to-win options or loot boxes. No gameplay will be locked behind a paywall. The team takes inspiration from free-to-play games like Apex Legends, where spending money is completely optional. Creative Director Cuz Parry also explained why the game will not be called Skate 4:

“This is not a sequel. It’s not a remake. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a prequel; it’s none of that. It’s not a remake or remaster, whatever you can do. That’s it, it’s skate. We’re in for the long haul. That said, we’re not an iterative title. There will be no skate 5 to 10. We’re not going to keep pumping them out. We will do this. We’ll listen to what you say over time and build in the features you want. Okay, and again for the people in the back, it’s skate. It’s NOT Skate 4. Just skate. Period. So we put a little dot after it.”

skate. will be an ever evolving world called San Vansterdam with community created content. Skate.’s creative director, Deran Chung, told The Verge that the game is “an authentic evolution of the franchise, taking what Skate 3 was in 2010 and bringing it into the present and into the future.” Community-created content includes CollaboZones, areas created by multiple players before being shared in real-time with other players’ worlds, although they are also monitored. The video above showed some of the CollaboZones, such as B. a massive ramp and grindrails with Deathwish. However, the list of content in the final version of the game is far from complete, as it depends on community feedback.

The game will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC and will feature crossplay and cross-progression. They’re also looking at a mobile version, although development for that is much further back. Who wants to know when to skate. will be released will be disappointed to find that there is no release date yet. The game’s release date is still “a long way off” and probably won’t be 2022. However, those interested in playing the game this year can sign up as a Skate Insider and EA Playtester through the EA website.

In other news, Multiversus is entering early access next week, ahead of an open beta giving all players access to the game for months to come. Elsewhere, the July 14 Fall Guys patch temporarily removed Pusheen items from the store while the team resolved login issues.
