She-Hulk Episode 4: Did Donny Blaze Replace Johnny Blaze as the MCU’s Ghost Rider?

As She-Hulk: Lawyer continues on Disney Plus, the series introduces a number of new faces with each episode. This week’s offering was no exception as audiences met magician Donny Blaze. With a familiar last name that has Marvel fans wondering if there’s more to the character than meets the eye, could the MCU introduce a new take on the superhero Ghost Rider, aka Johnny Blaze?

Is Donny Blaze the MCU version of Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze?

An early trailer for She-Hulk had many speculating that Ghost Rider might be featured as it featured a poster for Blaze’s magic show. Many assumed the performer’s name would be Johnny, but the show’s writers were clearly having fun since his real name is Donny. After training in Kamar-Taj, the would-be magician eventually left, but not before stealing a slingshot ring that gave him the ability to create an interdimensional portal to another place or realm.

Despite all his skills and the inclusion of demons in She Hulk Episode 4, Donny is unlikely to become Ghost Rider. The spirit of vengeance that Johnny Blaze became attached to after making a deal with Mephisto was not mentioned. There’s always a possibility that he could be a distant relative of the character that might be introduced in the future. With the MCU now introducing more supernatural elements, it would be a surprise not to see Ghost Rider again at some point – the Robbie Reyes version of the character already appeared in Agent of SHIELD, after all.

Will the Midnight Sons come to the MCU?

We’re potentially moving towards a point in the MCU where a version of the team, the Midnight Sons, will be formed. Both Doctor Strange and Wong have served as leaders of the group in the comics, with members including Blaze’s Ghost Rider and even Blade, which has officially become part of Marvel’s future plans with a solo film due out in November 2023, which would be considered perfect serve as the entry point for Ghost Rider, as even more elements of fantasy and the supernatural will be at the heart of the action.

Moon Knight, Morbius, and Iron Fist were all also members of the Midnight Sons. So if zombies, demons, or anything else out of the ordinary is threatening the earth, they could be summoned to come together and eliminate the threat. There are countless avenues the MCU could take, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more clues as to where Marvel Studios is headed.
