SAN DIEGO — It certainly wasn’t a denial.
When rumors swirled about Kevin Willard’s possible departure from Seton Hall for Maryland, he didn’t deny them. In fact, Seton Hall’s season ended in one ugly 69-42 NCAA tournament loss to TCU At Viejas Arena, Willard gave an endorsement to the man he believes should replace him in South Orange, NJ, if he actually leaves.
“If I’m not here next year, I’d love for Shaheen Holloway to be here,” Willard said. “That would be the happiest thing that has ever happened to me.”
Holloway, a former Seton Hall star and assistant coach under Willard, led No. 15 St. Peter’s in a massive upset of second-place Kentucky on Thursday night.
Willard has been shy about his own job status.
“I’ll give you exactly what I can tell you,” he said. “I have an agent I haven’t spoken to yet. I don’t know who he’s talking to, I have absolutely no idea. But when I come home tomorrow, I’ll speak to my agent and discuss things with my agent.”
