SEVEN children under the age of 8 rushed to hospital with an overdose after the 7-year-old gave them sleeping pills

SEVEN children under eight have been hospitalized after allegedly overdosing on sleeping pills in Hopewell, Virginia.

According to CBS6, investigators believe a 7-year-old child gave the others his sleeping pills.

Hopewell Police were called to a home around 5.30pm Wednesday night where four children aged four and under were found unresponsive.

Police then reportedly found three other children awake but lethargic.

All seven children were taken to John Randolph Hospital.

The three youngest children, aged between one and three, are in critical condition, according to NBC12.

The other four children are said to be fine, reports the outlet.

Police say the adult who was looking after the children left the house to go to a shop around the corner.

When the adult returned, he saw the condition of the children and called 911.

Police reportedly confiscated prescription drugs from the home while executing a search warrant, NBC12 reports.

The Hopewell Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The investigations are ongoing.

Hopewell is an independent city located approximately 20 miles outside of Richmond.

The area is currently undergoing renovations, including the restoration of a 1920’s vaudeville theater that now hosts acclaimed musical performances.
