A serial rapist used a knife point to force sex on six women after he pounced on them on their way home.

He committed crimes against six women aged between 20 and 32, all of whom lived in Camden, London.

Woodgreen’s court heard how Mukendi carried out the attacks over a two-year period between September 2017 and December 2019.

He followed each of his victims late at night and when they were alone as they walked home.

The attacks took place as soon as the victims reached their front door or common stairwells.

While distracted while pulling out their keys, Mukendi approached them from behind with a gun – on one occasion a hammer and on others a knife. He would then force her to perform oral sex on him.

As soon as he finished or was interrupted, he ran away. All victims immediately reported the attacks to the police.

Each attack took place within walking distance of each other and not far from Mukendi’s home address.

After the initial attack on September 21, 2017, Central North BCU detectives launched an investigation – but they conducted extensive investigations, but to no avail.

In 2018 there were further similar attacks and again a suspect was not caught despite thorough investigations.

A breakthrough came when officers released the suspect’s CCTV image to the media on Tuesday, December 21, 2020.

After seeing this, Mukendi turned himself in to the police the next day.

When detectives searched Mukendi’s home address, they found clothing matching what the suspect was wearing on CCTV.

A laptop was also confiscated and later examined by forensic experts.

Mukendi had also attempted to delete video footage he had taken of the September 21, 2017 attack, but this was recovered.

A zombie knife and a lock knife believed to have been used in the attacks were also found at his home address.

Mukendi was then charged and taken into custody.

Central North BCU Detective Constable Stacey Smith said: “Mukendi is an extremely dangerous offender who targeted these women as they walked home alone in the dark. He waited for the most opportune moment before launching his attacks. His actions left these women traumatized by what happened to them.

“I would like to thank you for coming forward and supporting the police investigation; also for providing crucial evidence that led to this conviction and ensured that no one else could subject Mukendi to such horrific attacks.

“I would urge anyone who has been the victim of a similar attack to speak to us directly and cite CAD1639/21MAR22. Alternatively, contact us through a third party support group such as The Havens or London Survivors Gateway who offer a 24/7 emergency number if you need to speak to someone for the first time.”

If you have been the victim of sexual assault, rape, or have information about a perpetrator, in an emergency call the police on 101 or 999 – there are specially trained officers who will listen and investigate if necessary.
