Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) blocked the speedy passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) after his proposed provision of the Uighur Muslim genocide was not included draft. Florida Republicans introduced the provision on Wednesday, saying the NDAA must ban imports of Chinese goods from Xinjiang province.

The US Senate has found at least 1 million Uighurs are used as slaves in Xinjiang labor camps, making products for international companies. However, Senate Democrats say such a proposal must come from the House because it affects US revenue.

“And so this isn’t really about generating revenue, the CBO said it’s really insignificant,” Rubio explained. “This is about the fact that they don’t want this bill to pass in the House and I understand why. Listen, there are some big companies out there, some very big companies… who’s going to go out and lobby for slave labor? ”

Rubio asserts that Democrats are defending special interests that reap huge financial profits from the use of slave labor in China.
