His field Star Estelle Harris, who also voiced Mrs Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise, has died at the age of 93.
Harris’ son Glen broke the news, explaining that she died of natural causes in California on Saturday (April 2) – just weeks before she turned 94.
“It is with the utmost regret and sadness that we must announce that Estelle Harris passed away at 6:25pm this evening,” Glen said meeting. “Her kindness, passion, sensitivity, humor, empathy and love were virtually unrivaled and she will be terribly missed by all who knew her.”
Harris played the mother of Jason Alexander’s George Costanza on the popular NBC sitcom His field. Between 1992 and 1998 she appeared in a total of 27 episodes.
Born in New York in 1928, Harris first began acting in amateur community theater before finding success on stage and screen. Her credits include Curb your enthusiasmwritten by and with His fieldis Larry David, HE, Sabrina the teenage witch, Cybill and Married with children.
Her voice became known to a younger generation after she was cast as Mrs Potato Head toy story 2. She returned to voice the character in the third and fourth episodes, released in 2010 and 2019, respectively.
Acknowledging his mother’s continued success, Glen said, “Her passion was her work, and her work was her passion.”
Meanwhile, Alexander paid tribute to his on-screen mom, writing on Twitter: “One of my favorite people has passed away – my TV mom, Estelle Harris. The joy of playing with her and enjoying her lovely laugh was a treat.
“I adore you, Estelle. love to your family. Serenity now and always,” he continued, referencing George’s father’s line in His fieldplayed by Jerry Stiller.
Harris is survived by three children, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Alexander paid tribute to Harris on Twitter following news of her death.
