Second suspect wanted for questioning in Hotel Fayetteville homicide investigation

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WNCN) – The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is working to invite two Fayetteville men for questioning after a deadly shooting over the weekend.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Monday its homicide detective wanted to speak to 28-year-old Damon Javone Ward about the shooting, but then on Tuesday added Joseph Michael Byrd, Jr., 41, as another wanted suspect.

MPs responded to the 9pm Sunday shooting in the parking lot of the Coliseum Inn on the 2500 block of Gillespie Street.
The victim, Donald Charles Owens III, 29, also of Fayetteville, was found with life-threatening injuries.
Owens was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where the sheriff’s office confirmed he died Monday morning.
