Second puppy stolen from Atlanta shelter found

The second of three puppies stolen from an Atlanta, Georgia animal shelter in a recent burglary was found safely on Sunday.

Three dogs were abducted Friday in an early morning burglary from PAWS Atlanta in DeKalb County — two puppies named Violet and Emilia and a toy Yorkie named Princeton. The Yorkie should be adopted.

Employees monitoring security cameras reported seeing a person in a hoodie walking suspiciously around the shelter, followed by the sound of glass breaking. The employees called the police and rushed to the shelter. When workers arrived, they found a broken window and rock, and open animal crates.

Violet became the second pup to be reunited with the shelter after she was spotted by a man walking his dog on Sunday morning. Emilia was found safe at the shelter on Friday night by a volunteer who saw a photo on the Nextdoor app that “closely resembled” one of the missing puppies.

The man who found Violet noticed that she was tied to a phone in an area near the shelter. He recognized the bitch and took her to the shelter.

“We have no reason to believe that the person who found and returned her is connected to the burglary and we are grateful for his care and support,” PAWS Atlanta wrote on Facebook.

The puppy was unharmed, the shelter said. Violet was wearing a leash and harness that don’t belong to the shelter but may belong to the person who took her.

“The location where Violet was found is close to PAWS Atlanta and also not far from where Emilia was found Friday night,” the shelter wrote. “It is very likely that the suspect lives in this area, so we encourage people who live nearby to be extra vigilant.”

However, the third dog is still missing. PAWS Atlanta said on social media that a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Princeton’s safe return.
