According to experts, SCHOOLS is preparing to QUARTER their workforce to be isolated or sick within a few days.
Geoff Barton, head of the Association of School and College Leaders, has warned that the Government is planning for 25% of school staff to be inactive for the new term.
He stated that students will look back on the pandemic “almost like evacuees” because of the amount of disruption it has caused to their studies.
Mr Barton believes there is a “mixed picture” so far of how Covid affects absenteeism this term, but warned that Whitehall is planning for a quarter of staff loss.
Dozens of schools are on the verge of closure, with half of all schools in the UK turning to teachers to cover staff absences.

The National Association of Principals has warned that the “worrying” problem is so bad that many schools are “on the verge” of closing.
An NAHT poll found that 37% of the half of UK schools that switched to providing teachers were unable to find the cover they needed.
Mr Barton told BBC Breakfast: “Not all schools and colleges are open and won’t be until Monday, so we won’t have an accurate picture of staff absences. until next week.
“There was a snapshot taken from a handful of primary schools earlier in the week showing there could be around 10% of staff absent.
“The government is planning a potential 25% payroll.”
Some older students are also said to have refused to wear masks and walked around after returning to school this week.
High school students now have to wear masks in class again with ministers desperately trying to avoid another homeschooling setback.
‘CREDIT FOR THEM’
The government said schools “can decide how best to encourage” students to take tests and wear masks.
The Department of Education stressed that students should not be “rejected from education” based on whether or not they were wearing a mask.
Mr Barton added: “I went for a walk with the dog a week ago and in that one hour I received 12 phone calls from journalists all asking the same question: ‘Is it going to get worse? like, what’s the problem?’
“This weekend I heard that young people don’t like wearing masks but realized it was a way for them to continue their education.
“I listened to a principal from Norwich remind us that when you come into education don’t expect it to be easy, don’t expect it to be like this.
“But nevertheless, the moral purpose we would be if the masks were a way that we could attract more young people to school and remind ourselves that young people are playing a real role. important in protecting each other and their teachers.
“It’s almost like World War II evacuees thinking, ‘Look what we did, look what we achieved but what did we learn from it’.
Even though self-isolation rules are being changed, teachers may be forced to stay home for 10 days after a positive test result.
That means parents could find themselves engulfed in the chaos of last spring’s semester, with students and teachers being repeatedly sent home unnecessarily.
Many people may have to go back to school at home or rush to find last minute childcare.
Boris has faced calls to cut the period of self-isolation from seven to five days to allow schools and the workforce to return to normal.
But the Government said “no further changes” were planned to reduce the length of the quarantine but insisted the rules would be kept “under review”.
