SC mother amputated both arms after being mauled by 3 pit bulls

A South Carolina mother had both arms amputated after being brutalized by three pit bulls, her family says.

Ill victim Kyleen Waltman, 38, also lost part of her colon and may also need to remove part of her esophagus, her sister said.

“It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever seen,” sibling Amy Wynne told local TV station WYFF.

Kyleen remains in critical condition in the hospital since she was attacked by dogs on a sidewalk on the Honea Path northwest of Columbia on Monday.

Authorities said a man found Waltman mauled by the dogs – and was eventually able to scare the animals off by firing his gun into the air.

The seriously injured victim was flown to a nearby hospital in a rescue helicopter.

“At that point, they couldn’t even tell who she was,” said Shenna Green, Waltman’s other sister. “If it wasn’t for that [the passer-by]my sister wouldn’t be here.”

Justin Minor, the owner of the three pit bulls, was charged in connection with the attack and was released on $15,000 bail on Thursday.

The victim’s sisters want Minor to be held accountable.

“It could have been prevented,” Wynne said. “If the dogs had been caged or chained, or if they had never been there to begin with, this never would have happened.”

It wasn’t immediately clear how the dogs got onto the streets.

Signs reading “beware of dog” can be seen on Minor’s property, according to local media.

The dogs were confiscated by Abbeville County Animal Control after the attack and a police investigation is ongoing.
