James Alexandrou reveals why he never returned to EastEnders
James Alexandrou has revealed why he never returned as Martin Fowler.
The actor, 36, played a market stall owner from 1996 to 2007.
Martin was played by Jon Peyton Price for 11 years before James took on the role at the age of 11.
During his stint on the BBC, James appeared in a whopping 707 episodes before he decided he wanted to pursue something different.
His alternate self wasn’t killed off when he left the show 15 years ago, but he realized he didn’t want to return to the role.
James previously said: “They talked for a while about me coming back.
“They made it very clear that they were bringing the character back and they really wanted me to come back, but that didn’t sit well with me at the time.
“The charm here is seeing some of my old friends again and having a bit of nostalgia, and that wasn’t enough at the time.”
Since joining EastEnders, James has appeared in a number of television shows including Missing, You, Me & Them, Casualty and most recently The Prey.
He also appeared in a number of theatrical productions.
