‘Rust’ crew member reveals how far Halyna Hutchins was shot by Gun Alec Baldwin

It’s been nearly two months since actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of “Rust,” but new episodes emerge regularly.

Special effects coordinator Thomas Gandy said he was only about five yards from the fatal crash. In a new episode In the 20/20 issue of ABC, titled “The Deadly Take,” Gandy recalls some chilling details.

“Halyna is telling Alec that she wants to see his thumb move the hammer back to do the shot,” said Gandy.

When Baldwin Gandy said that when the shot was fired, Hutchins was only 18-24 inches away. Serge Svetnoy, the main electrician on set, picked up Hutchins as she collapsed.

“Her skin is very white,” Svetnoy said. He added that she told him she couldn’t feel her legs.

Other crew members said some refused to acknowledge the harsh reality that Hutchins had been accidentally hit. Costume designer Terese Davis said they were told, “She’s settled.”

Sadly, that’s not the case, and Hutchins died not long after that.

Workers on set said gun safety during the filming of “Rust” was not up to par. Crew member Lane Luper quit his job just hours before Hutchins died, and he said the gun scenes were played “quickly and loosely”. Fox News reported.

On episode 20/20, ABC News reporter Kaylee Hartung said that “most of the crew” left the set that morning after their concerns about “accommodation and safety” were not resolved. .

Even if security protocols were in place, it would seem reasonable to ask why Baldwin pointed out a hand gun in someone just a foot and a half away from him. All other protocols aside, this is a blatant violation of basic gun safety.

But instead of addressing this question, Baldwin refused to take responsibility and even refuse he pulled the trigger.

“The trigger hasn’t been pulled, I’ve never pulled the trigger,” Baldwin said in an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. He went on to assure the interviewer that he would “never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger on them”.

That is extremely uncertain for revolvers unless the user places his finger on the trigger. Baldwin’s story of the gun simply “exploding” isn’t technically impossible, but it is believable.

However, even if his story is true, we now know he was pointing a gun at Hutchins from just inches away. Unless, of course, he believes the gun pointed itself at Hutchins before miraculously shooting himself.

At best, Baldwin is guilty of violating at least one basic gun safety rule by pointing a gun at someone from close range. Worst of all, he broke another rule by placing his finger on the trigger.

In both cases, Baldwin’s reckless actions resulted in the death of a woman, and it was a fact he was forced to live with.
