Russian Doll: Natasha Lyonne explains why Rosie O’Donnell is credited

Natasha Lyonne revealed why Rosie O’Donnell is credited with Russian doll season two.

The acclaimed show first aired in 2019 and saw Lyonne as Nadia, a perpetually dying New Yorker reliving her 36th birthday party after being caught in a time warp.

After the series made its much-anticipated return to Netflix on Wednesday (April 20), viewers may be wondering why the comedian’s name appears in the credits.

In a recent interview with EWLyonne, who also serves as a series co-creator, addressed O’Donnell’s role in the new season.

‘She’s the subway announcer. She’s the ‘Next stop, that’s Astor Place. Next stop, 14th Street,” Lyonne explained.

With much of Season 2 filming on the New York City subway, the star said it was important to her that whoever was doing the subway announcements had an authentic New York tone.

“I just texted [O’Donnell]because we knew we wanted a real New York accent,” she said.

“We kind of walked the line, we said, ‘Rosie Perez, Rosie … Mike Rapaport. Who does this part?’ And so I texted Rosie and she just started sending me these little voice notes,” she added.
