A new Nintendo Direct should arrive “early next week,” according to a tweet from industry insider Jeff Grubb. Yesterday, Grubb noted that another insider named Quarterdann (Dan Ryckert) on the Giant Bomb twitch channel said the Nintendo Direct, rumored to be scheduled next week, could be delayed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Of course, it’s difficult to say if anything can be “delayed” when Nintendo has never officially announced the launch time and date for the Direct.
What will this new Nintendo Direct show?
In the tweet, Grubb predicts that the Nintendo Direct is still coming with not many date changes:
“OK. It sounds like Direct is still on. If it’s postponed, it will likely be a very small adjustment. Expect early next week.”
This aligns with his previous statement in late August on an episode of Last of the Nintendogs with GamesBeat editor Mike Minotti, in which Grubb said he heard from “a good source” that the next Nintendo Direct would fall this week from 12.09. Apparently there were rumors it could have aired this week, but he wasn’t sure if Nintendo wanted to air it the same week as Labor Day. Given that since 2016 Nintendo has released some kind of Nintendo Direct in September, it’s expected that one will definitely be coming soon.
Both Minotti and Grubb agree that whenever this Nintendo Direct is held, Zelda will likely play a big role. Both are confident that new Switch remasters of various Zelda games like Twilight Princess and Wind Waker would be announced. It would also be a good time to reveal the actual name of the Breath of the Wild sequel. Otherwise, with less confidence, a new Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem game and Kid Icarus Uprising HD remaster could also be shown.
In other news, Stalker 2 is likely to be delayed after Xbox pre-orders were canceled and Eidos Montreal now owns both the Deus Ex and Thief franchises after acquiring Embracer Group.
