Watford were in deep trouble at the time and the pair set out on a rescue mission to avoid relegation.

And there was always a question as to whether the respected duo would stay after being lured out of retirement.

The Hornets are one from the bottom of the Prem and look doomed to relegation championship.

They are ten points from safety with just five games left, despite Hodgson’s efforts.

Hodgson is determined to end the season on a high note and hand over a club in better shape than when he arrived.

“If they think the situation can be changed by getting rid of me and Ray, that’s their prerogative.

“Since I’ve come to the club I’ve never asked for any assurances. I’ve said I’ll come to the club and do the job to the best of my ability.”

“But I’ve never asked for assurances and I don’t have those kinds of conversations with the owner.”
