Ronaldo wants to CHOOSE the release of statements from witnesses including celebrity friends in the rape case out of fear of ‘harassment’

CRISTIANO Ronaldo wants to block the release of dozens of witness statements in his Las Vegas rape case – as it could put people at “significant risk of harassment”.

The Manchester United player’s lawyers have issued two separate responses in an ongoing legal battle to prevent the release of police records in the 2009 case.

The files include a cache of recorded interviews, witness statements, emails, CCTV footage and medical reports.

The New York Times first offered a legal bid for them to obtain Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department records, but was met with stiff opposition.

First, Ronaldo’s legal team argued that much of the information in the filing was obtained illegally by the Football Leaks website.

But now, according to a new legal filing obtained by The Sun, the star’s lawyers say witnesses in the case will be “at risk” if they are disqualified.

They argue that the files should not be released for the safety of Ronaldo and his accuser, Kathryn Mayorga, as well as key witnesses and anyone providing information, who could be subject to “serious harm about reputation”.

The submissions filed February 8 stated: “Those named in the LVMPD filings, as well as those who provided the information contained therein, have a strong interest in ‘not being linked one by one. improperly with the alleged criminal activity’.

“Plaintiff, Defendant, and witnesses interviewed as part of the reopened investigation all have non-trivial private interests.”

The documents go on to say that Ronaldo is a “famous athlete” that has attracted “considerable media attention”, which lawyers say creates a “significant risk of harassment”. to witnesses if records are released.

The document adds: “Disclosure of any part of LVMPD’s records would certainly violate those privacy interests and lead to undue embarrassment and possibly serious damage to the reputation of the LVMPD. language.”

The Sun has reached out to Ronaldo’s representative for comment.
A potential high-level witness maybe LA socialite Paris Hilton.

Just hours before arriving in Vegas, Ronaldo partyed overnight with his blonde heir until dawn on June 11 at the MyHouse club in Los Angeles.

He is said to have hooked up with her that night, before setting off for Vegas the next day, where he encounters Mayorga.

It is possible that the police obtained a statement from the heir to determine Ronaldo’s behavior in the 24 hours before the alleged rape.

Another witness in the case could be the mother of Portuguese superstar Dolores, who, according to reports, was staying at the same hotel with her son in LA before he arrived in Vegas.

PRIVATE RATE VS PUBLIC RATE

Ronaldo is in Sin City to party with his brother-in-law and cousin who, among others, could all be potential witnesses.

Court proceedings filed by the star’s attorney said anyone providing information to police could be at risk.

The documents state: “Disclosure of witness statements even in redacted form along with the number of articles and media reports related to this matter would pose a significant risk that the identities of those witnesses will be revealed.

“The balance between the privacy interest in question and the public interest in disclosure strongly opposes disclosure.”

Ronaldo’s lawyers filed a “protection order” to prevent more than 400 documents from being revealed by police in November while arguing in court.

Last Tuesday, Judge Jennifer A Dorsey heard legal arguments from both sides at a trial.

A final hearing, which will give a verdict in this case, will be scheduled at a later date.

Ronaldo has vehemently denied raping Kathryn Mayorga at the Palms hotel and casino on June 12, 2009.

Ron, 37, settled with her accuser in a civil action where she accepted a “concealed” payment of £276,000, but she is now seeking an additional £56million.

The police investigation into the alleged sexual assault was dropped in July 2019, but the civil case is still ongoing.

Ronaldo’s legal team has always claimed that the police investigated the rape allegation twice in 2009 and 2018 – and there were no cases to answer.

And the star himself also confirmed he had a consensual sex with Mayorga.
