Romelu Lukaku needs a confidence boost… Chelsea should use the same trick I gave Gareth Bale, says Harry Redknapp

Confidence BIT can go a long way in football… and that could be the deciding factor at Wembley today.

On the one hand you have Liverpool, on the other hand absolutely full of life, against a Chelsea team with very few record signings.

So tight as EFL Cup Finals I think Jurgen Klopp will bring the trophy home with him.

You look at the offensive play he’s built, and it’s as good as any play in the game.

They just run overboard, coming to you from everywhere. No doubt Klopp will again use 4-3-3 and with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz, it is an attacking force, even if Diogo Jota is injured.

What a contrast to Chelsea, with Romelu Lukaku very far from it at the moment.

I mean, seven encounters with Crystal Palace last week. So amazing!

I’ve heard people make excuses, saying he didn’t get service. But his movement also needs to be better, he needs to put himself a little more.

To be fair, I’ve watched clips where the ball didn’t go to his feet – but he didn’t move into position to get it. He needs someone to work with him on the training ground.

They should have someone work with him one-on-one in the 18-yard box, half an hour with a coach – that’s their job.

Ask him to run, show him how to get half a yard of space, how to get the job done.

We all have players who are in poor form, really lack confidence, or maybe both – and that’s where the coaches have to make money.

Gareth Bale was really struggling for a while at Tottenhamso on the training ground I was up against him, who I know he can rip the *** off.

I gave him the ball, said ‘go on, put him in’, and it did wonders for his confidence.

That’s what we did, and let’s see what Gareth has continued to do. It’s all about confidence building, and so is fulfillment.

There was another time when I had a midfielder at Portsmouth, Jason Roberts, on loan from West Brom, and he was having a bad time.

Jim Smith said to me ‘I have a drill I want to do with him Harry’, so we put two big men out there with half a dozen balls each, putting them on him.

There were no defenders there, they just crossed for Jason to finish.

Though I have to admit, that morning we passed a few and he still couldn’t hit his target.

I told Jim we should stop, or we’ll make him even worse! To be fair, he stuck with it, dropped a few things, and turned out fine. And once he’s scored it’s confidence.

Speaking of which, I greatly admire Jurgen for putting his faith in Caoimhin Kelleher, the young goalkeeper he said he would stick with in the final.

I did the same thing with my number 2 goalkeeper at Tottenham, Carlo Cudicini, in the 2012 FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

I left Brad Friedel the number one pick on the bench, as I did all the time.

I couldn’t see much between them at Wembley – but if you twisted my arm I’d say Liverpool will name it

But you are leaving the door open if the results go against you, like it did with Spurs when we were beaten well. None of them are Carlo’s fault, but that doesn’t stop me from getting loads of criticism, so it’s risky.

That’s not to say Klopp doesn’t take it seriously either, because I know how much he wants to win this – in fact these are two managers who want to win everything they have.

I’m sick of seeing teams in the half-table place the reserves in cup games, so let’s play fair with this matchup.

When Jose Mourinho arrived, the first thing he did with Chelsea was to make it clear how important it was to win trophies.

Liverpool there’s still a chance of winning everything, because while you might have to fancy Manchester City for the tournament, you’re certainly not going to obliterate them.

Thomas Tuchel has shown he knows what needs to be donewon the Champions League last season… a trophy Klopp had won two years earlier.

I can’t see much between them at Wembley – but if you twist my arm, I’ll say Liverpool will score… though I can’t be completely confident.
