Flourent Malouda has revealed he almost signed for Liverpool – before joining Chelsea.
The former winger was coached by Gerard Houllier at the time and was almost convinced when he moved to Anfield.
Speaking exclusively to Genting Casino, Malouda said: “Gerard Houllier is my coach.
“Whenever I train, I always ask him questions about the Premier League and whether I play there or not.
“He said you have to come and experience the Premier League at least once in your career and then he took his phone and called Liverpool – he literally made the deal with me. .”
Liverpool were coached by Rafa Benitez at the time, who was keen to sign Malouda.
He revealed: “Liverpool was the first team to make an offer. Rafa was the coach and he really pushed me to come to Liverpool.”
The Frenchman eventually joined Chelsea for £13m in 2007.
Malouda said: “When Chelsea came to me, I felt very proud.
“I know a lot of players who were there and of course we would talk often on the phone, which helped with my decision, so I knew Chelsea was the club I really wanted to join. .”
