Roger Waters’ tour calls President Biden a ‘war criminal’

Pink Floyd mainstay Roger Waters branded President Biden a “war criminal” during his recent US stadium tour and accused him of “stoking the fire” of Russia’s war with Ukraine.

As part of his show, the 78-year-old rocker flashes an image of the 46th Supreme Commander onto a giant screen backstage, along with the words, “War criminals – just getting started.”

When asked about CNN’s ad over the weekend, Waters said, “President Biden? First of all, he’s stoking the fire in Ukraine – that’s a big crime.”

Waters then asked why the US didn’t “encourage” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “to negotiate and thereby circumvent the need for this appalling, appalling war that is killing we don’t know how many Russians.”

In an irritated, politically charged exchange, CNN host Michael Smerconish insisted the rock legend “did it the other way around” by “blaming the party that was attacked.”

“Well, any war, when did it start?” Waters responded, expressing a line that Russian President Vladimir Putin used to justify his invasion.

CNN's Roger Waters and Michael Smerconish
Roger Waters had a heated exchange with CNN’s Michael Smerconish, who described himself as a “longtime fan of Waters’ music who doesn’t always agree with his message”.

“You could say it started in 2008 – this war is basically about action and reaction of NATO pushing to the Russian border what they promised when not to do [former Soviet leader Mikhail] Gorbachev negotiated the USSR’s withdrawal from all of Eastern Europe,” he said.

Waters shared a similar alternative view when, in response to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the self-governing island, Smerconish suggested China was “busy encircling Taiwan” with ongoing military exercises.

“They are not orbiting Taiwan — Taiwan is part of China!” Waters said emphatically.

“And that has been absolutely accepted by the entire international community since 1948 – and if you don’t know that, you don’t read enough. Go and read about it!”

Roger Waters repeatedly urged CNN’s Michael Smerconish to “go away and read about political events.”

Going back further to Beijing, Waters said, “The Chinese didn’t invade Iraq in 2003 and didn’t kill a million people.

When Smerconish said “her own,” the rocker snapped, “Bullshit. This is absolute nonsense. Absolute nonsense – you should go and read!”

Waters’ This is Not a Drill tour — stopping at the UBS Arena on Long Island this weekend and Madison Square Garden later this month — also touches on the murder of George Floyd, abortion and gun control.

The projection display even includes an on-screen warning, with Waters reading aloud: “If you’re one of those ‘I love Pink Floyd, but I can’t stand Rogers politics’ people, you might do well to fuck off right now.” Bar.”

“It clarifies a few things,” Waters told CNN, before admitting that the background was mostly included, “because it’s a really good way to start the show.” Roger Waters’ tour calls President Biden a ‘war criminal’
