Report ‘active shooting’ as 911 calls claim ‘some people had guns and were shot’ in Austin

Multiple gunmen are said to have opened fire at a shopping mall in Texas.
Police and paramedics are responding to an “active attack” following reports of a shooting at the Barton Creek Mall in Austin.

According to the Austin-Travis County EMS, multiple 911 callers reported “several people with guns and shots fired” near the food court.
No casualties have been reported at this time.

Police and medical personnel are at the scene, working “Positive Attack Response”.

Videos posted on social media showed the outside of the mall with police cars and ambulances scattered at the scene.

The Austin Police Department wrote: “Officers are currently handling a developing case at Barton Creek Shopping Center to report a robbery. Twitter.

“Avoid that area. PIO is responding. The vehicle, still in the back of the parking lot near Walsh Tarlton. Will advise on the exact location and time as soon as possible. ”

Multiple videos on social media showed parts of the mall being evacuated as police searched the premises.

One witness said he didn’t hear any gunshots but saw people running inside, which he called “traumatizing” and “very scary.”

Marco Chavez told KXAN: “I just ran inside a store, and they let us in. “We were just there, and we were locked in for a bit.”

Samuel Robertson and his best friend were in the mall when they saw people “randomly starting to run”.

“Luckily I was on the opposite side of the mall. Another person told us he was right near where it happened and heard about 3 gunshots near the food court area.”

An update from Austin-Travis County EMS EMS states that “no patient reports have been made.”

Max Anderson, a witness at the mall, said he was less than 10 minutes into it when people started running out the door.

“It was a stampede. Panic and confused. Families were just trying to go Christmas shopping,” he wrote. on Twitter.

Austin Police Department wrote on Twitter that the mall has been cleaned up.

“The scene has been cleared and is safe. Anyone still inside can get out safely.”
