Rep. Stefanik says GOP ‘Commitment to America’ plans blessing for NY

Top Republican in the New York House of Representatives Elise Stefanik said the party’s “Commitment to America” pledge will strengthen the Big Apple and the Empire State by helping fight crime and giving students more educational opportunities.

Stefanik spoke about the newly unveiled GOP platform in a Friday interview with The Post, listing some of its core components, namely support for law enforcement and a “crackdown” on liberal prosecutors.

“We are focused on providing resources for 200,000 more police officers across the country to counter Democrat calls for police defunding,” said Stefanik, the head of the House of Representatives GOP conference, which represents the North Country.

Stefanik said the push for more police officers and the GOP’s pro-law enforcement agenda would help New York City, the nation’s largest municipality, and the NYPD fight crime.

She also said prosecutors who don’t enforce the law will face Republican wrath if the GOP wrests control of the House from Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.

“We will crack down on prosecutors and prosecutors [Manhattan DA] Alvin Bragg, who refuse to prosecute crimes,” Stefanik said.

She said the GOP will target New York State’s controversial non-cash bail law and “prevent bail reform from spreading to other states.”

Elsewhere, she said parenting rights and choices — including promoting and expanding charter schools — will be a top priority.

“Democrats have done our children a fundamental disservice with school closures that have resulted in learning losses during the pandemic,” she said.

“Albany Democrats have also struck down charter school expansion and parental choice. That’s why Republicans are doing better among Black, Hispanic, and Asian voters.”

The GOP pledge promises to expand parental choices to 1 million more students through charter schools and home schooling as an alternative to traditional public schools.

Additionally, Stefanik said Republicans will have “subpoena authority” to get to the bottom of what really happened during the COVID-19 outbreak, including the circumstances that led to the deaths of more than 15,000 frail elderly residents in Nursing homes helped when Andrew Cuomo was governor.
