KARIM BENZEMA performed a cool panenka against Manchester City… despite missing two penalties just last week.
The confident Frenchman has scored 41 goals in 41 games for Real Madrid this season in all competitions.
However, he missed four penalties, including two in seven minutes in last week’s 3-1 win at Osasuna.
Benzema said: “I always have in mind that if you don’t take a penalty, you will never miss a penalty.
“That’s mental confidence and that’s all. I have a lot of confidence… so I do it and it goes well.”
On his striker’s penalty, boss Carlo Ancelotti said after the game: “I think he switched because the last two penalties weren’t good.
“He changed in training and tried. I didn’t know how he was going to shoot.
“He made that decision and it’s going really well. Strong personality and character.
“It’s not easy to take a penalty like that in the semi-finals of the Champions League.”
Legendary Striker Alan Scherer said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Having missed three penalties this month…
“That’s all I can do is laugh and think, ‘I can’t believe Karim Benzema just did that’.
“The sheer arrogance, but also the faith and ability to do that. He seems to be getting better and better.
“The sheer boldness! It was unbelievable.”
Regarding his side’s chances of progressing, Ancelotti believes his side need to defend better.
He added: “If we defend better in the second game we will win, but if we defend like this we will be out of the competition.”
