Razzies revokes Bruce Willis award after backlash over diagnosis

And the winner won’t be Bruce Willis.

The Razzie Awards have decided not to give them to Bruce Willis ‘Worst Performance by Bruce Willis of 2021’ award after much backlash

In a statement to The Post, the awards show’s co-founders, John Wilson and Mo Murphy, said, “After much thought and deliberation, the Razzies have made the decision to annul the Razzie Award bestowed on Bruce Willis due to his recent revelation of the diagnosis.”

It was announced Wednesday that Willis, 67, had been diagnosed brain disorder aphasia and had decided to give up acting.

The statement continued, “Where an individual’s medical condition is a factor in their decision-making and/or performance, we recognize that it is not appropriate to raid them.”

Organizers also told the Post they will also be taking back Razzie from “The Shining” star Shelley Duvall.

“As we recently did in a vulture interviewextenuating circumstances also apply to Shelley Duvall in ‘The Shining,'” they added.

“Since then, we’ve found that Duvall’s performance was influenced by Stanley Kubrick’s treatment from her throughout production. We would like to take this opportunity to withdraw this nomination as well,” the note concluded.

Murphy told Vulture in February that she would happily revoke Duvall’s nomination if she could. “If I know the backstory and the way Stanley Kubrick sort of pulverized it, I’d take that back,” she told the outlet.

The “Glass” actor has been nominated for eight different appearances in films appearing in his own category at this year’s Razzies in 2021.

Following the disclosure of his illness by Willis’ family, the awards are shown tweeted“I’m really sorry for the raids #Bruce Willis diagnosed condition. Maybe that explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021. Our best wishes to Bruce and his family.”

Wilson and Murphy continue said IndieWire“We are really sorry to hear about Willis’s diagnosis, which we were unaware of until the story broke this morning.”

They continued, “In Willis’ defense, perhaps his sales reps shouldn’t have let him handle such a high volume of work in such a short amount of time. We offer our best wishes to Bruce and his family.”

Shortly after that letter, Wilson released another statement to the outlet: “We are still discussing how to handle the news of Willis’ diagnosis and will get back to you.”
