Rats and mice climbed over and BITED my two young children while they slept in our housing association hell apartment

A single mother says rats and mice are crawling over her two young children and biting them as they sleep in their hell dwelling.

Marie Duncan, 29, says she feels “hopeless” and described her council housing in Victoria, London, as a “prison”.

The single mother of two moved into her home owned by housing association Peabody in October 2018.

And Marie claims that her apartment has been riddled with rats and mice since she moved in, reports Somerset Live.

Her living situation has left her concerned for the safety of herself and her two young children, aged three and five, as rodents “climb over her and bite her” while she sleeps.

Marie said she quickly noticed a number of other issues at the property immediately after the move.

She claims there are multiple holes in the floor and damage to the ceilings in the “nightmare” apartment.

Marie said: “Life in this property is like living in prison with my children – that’s the only way I can describe it.

It was just an absolute nightmare living here. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through.”

Marie’s five-year-old son is autistic and she believes the living environment and disabilities have adversely affected her son’s well-being.

She said: “It had such an effect on my son. There were nights when he kept hurting himself on the property because it was unsuitable. It was awful… it’s ridiculous decay, it’s a health and safety issue.”

The situation gets even worse as Marie suffers from fibromyalgia, a serious long-term condition that causes pain throughout the body.

She claims the hellish living conditions made it worse and urged Peabody to “take her situation seriously.”

“It feels like [Peabody] tries to always wash your hands of the situation.

“I feel like the way I’m being allowed to live is inhuman. It was years of trauma for my children and it would definitely have affected their development process. I have a feeling it will be the death of my child.”

She added: “It was just a big struggle – being someone who was already suffering from depression and had taken medication in the past, and then coming into this property only made it worse.

“I had to feel like I was dead or something, only then would my child get help. I needed to feel like my child would suddenly be protected if I wasn’t alive. “

Peabody has said they are aware of the mice but claims there have been no reports of rodents biting the children.

A spokesman for the Peabody Housing Association said: “Our neighborhood manager for this property has worked really hard to support and build a good relationship [Marie]. They are in regular contact.

“We know that [Marie] wants a permanent move and has a very high priority for it due to her circumstances. She also has the option of temporarily residing in another property found for her by Westminster City Council.

“Regarding the husbandry conditions, we received a notification about mice in January this year, which we had processed through pest control companies.

“The allegation that her children were bitten by rodents has never been reported or mentioned to us. There are no overt reports of antisocial behavior, but when [Marie] If she has specific concerns to express, she can do so through the neighborhood manager.”

The housing association added that they have attempted to repair the property but have been repulsed on a number of occasions.

“The property is in need of some repairs which we have attempted to carry out but we often do not have access to the property.

“We can get the work done, but contractors must be approved during the day to complete this. We will continue to work with partners to try to find a suitable property that she will be happy to move into.”

Recently a family complained about life in a moldy apartment full of bugs covered in mouse droppings.

And last year, another mother asked social services to take her children to a safe place away from her mouse-infested apartment. Rats and mice climbed over and BITED my two young children while they slept in our housing association hell apartment
