Ralf Rangnick has identified three potentially fixable songs Manchester Unitedproblems going on in midfield.
Rangnick took charge of United for the first time in their Premier League game Crystal Palace Last Saturday, a match they won 1-0.
Speaking after the game, the 63-year-old coach praised the performance of midfielders Fred and Scott McTominay, but urged them to cut sloppy square passes from their game.
‘They made one or two or three mistakes, especially in the first half, having two square passes; one from Scott, one from Fred,’ he said.
‘I don’t like those types of balls in midfield in those positions. But overall, when the other team has the ball, both Fred and Scotty, they’re almost perfect for that kind of football. ‘
But it appears Rangnick had his eye on replacing one or both players before he joined the club.
The German boss told United bosses he considers the midfield to be a weakness in a job interview, according to ESPN.
The report added that Rangnick explained why the midfield needed a boost before suggesting scouts take a closer look at Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham and RB Leipzig’s. Amadou Haidara.
Rangnick is also said to have selected Bellingham’s Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland as the player United should be looking to sign.
United have long been interested in Haaland, who has scored 74 goals in 72 appearances for Dortmund, and could be part of a battle for the Norwegian in the summer with some of the country’s top clubs. Europe also wants to sign him.
But although Rangnick has already identified the players he wants to bring in, both he and the club are looking forward to a quiet January period, prioritizing departures.
Meanwhile, Rangnick will be looking for results on the pitch, with United’s Premier League trip to bottom-placed Norwich on Saturday, the first of five games between now and the end of December.
