The owner of a Queens pawn shop, who had been repeatedly hit in the head with a metal bar, was so brutally beaten that police initially thought he had been shot, police officers told the Post on Tuesday.
The 60-year-old victim remains in critical condition after the horrific attack on the Global Pawn Shop in Jamaica.
The brutal beating unfolded around 1pm when the unidentified suspect entered the store and let loose on the owner – hitting him several times in the head with the pole, police said.
Upon encountering the gory scene, officers initially believed the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
It wasn’t until the shopkeeper was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center that doctors determined he was suffering from blunt force trauma, police said.
The motive behind the malicious attack is still unclear.
Police have since released a surveillance image showing the suspect near the pawnshop.
The perpetrator fled west on Jamaica Avenue after the attack, police said.
He was last spotted wearing a green Adidas baseball cap, black face mask, navy blue hooded jacket, black backpack, dark green pants and black shoes.
The suspect is described as approximately 5’7″ tall, weighing 150 pounds, of medium build and medium complexion.
