Prince William’s reputation hasn’t recovered after Oprah’s interview with Harry and Meghan

Prince William was once one of the most popular royals, with people around the world fascinated by his fairytale romance Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and her growing brood of sweet children. However, as his brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have gained fans, William’s popularity has plummeted.
Prince William has low popularity ratings among Gen Z
A new poll found that Williams’ support among Gen Z — people ages 16 to 24 — has fallen over the past year. The reason? Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.
A poll by YouGov In the aftermath of Harry and Meghan’s interview, it turned out that 41 percent of Gen Z people view him positively, compared to 36 percent who view him negatively.
Before the interview, Williams’ numbers were good. 71 percent of 18 to 24 year olds see William positively and 17 percent negatively. However, within days of the interview airing, the prince’s numbers began to decline.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Oprah interview changed the game
Harry and Meghan didn’t publicly accuse William, but many who watched their interview with Oprah thought certain comments the couple made were made by William.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed an unnamed royal asked how dark their then-unborn son was Archie‘s skin would be. Meghan also claimed that she was depressed to the point of suicidal thoughts but was prevented from seeking help at a psychiatric hospital by the royal family and their administration.

TIED TOGETHER: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s body language in Oprah interview is so revealing, experts say
When asked directly by Winfrey about his relationship with his brother, Harry was quick to share that the two are and always will be brothers.
“Like I said, I love William more than anything. He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together,” said the prince. “I mean, we have a common experience. But we are on different paths.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are popular… sort of
However, William isn’t the only one to score hits in the poll. While Harry and Meghan seem to be popular with GenZ and Millennials, both ranked very low in overall popularity.
Harry was viewed positively by 34 percent and negatively by 59 percent, Meghan by 26 percent positively and 65 percent negatively.
Many people have criticized the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for the way they handled their exit from the royal family and wondered why the couple would make private family matters so public. This and their flight to the United States has caused the couple’s popularity to decline.
Prince William scores high overall
Those new numbers for March 2022 are the lowest for William over the past year, according to YouGov. While Gen Z doesn’t appear to be a huge fan of the prince, the poll shows they’re in the minority.
Looking at his numbers across the board, William is the second most popular king behind Queen Elizabeth the second. 77 percent of those surveyed have a positive attitude towards the prince, only 16 percent oppose it.
With rumors circulating about the royals and headlines blasting them for their behavior, it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that their poll ratings have plummeted. However, YouGov’s poll found that the number of royal families had increased overall in recent months.
Prince William may not be popular with younger audiences, but it seems like the future King of England is very popular with his subjects overall.
