Poor New Jersey puppy dies after fighting porcupine

A bad pup in New Jersey was killed in a fight with a porcupine that left quills inside and outside the puppy’s body.

“They said at the animal hospital that their eyesight had never been so bad in their entire life,” Miranda Degennaro told NJ.com Tuesday, a few days after her family’s dog Chester succumbed to his horrific wounds.

The 9-year-old pit bull mix had a fight with the porcupine on the deck of the family home in Montague, Sussex County on September 2 and has been sick with a feather in his face, chest and stomach ever since, Degennaro said, degennaro of the drain.

“We saw him running and barking, so we ran down the deck, but it was too late,” the owner said.

Degennaro said some of the feathers ended up in Chester.

“Since he swallowed some, they just went everywhere,” she said.

The dog succumbed to its wounds this weekend after the Sept. 2 attack.

A family friend started a GoFundMe page to help support the dog’s medical bills ahead of the pooch’s surgery and died over the weekend.

In the post, the pal called Chester “a very energetic boy,” adding, “Well, last week he decided to adopt a porcupine. Needless to say, it didn’t end well.”

While a vet “successfully removed the feathers from his face and mouth…well over 20 feathers were lodged in his chest/stomach. They removed as many as they could, but the fear now is that the remaining Feders will migrate to his body rather than his body,” said the post, which had raised nearly $3,000 for the dog.

Doctors were afraid to continue operating to prevent more injuries.

Degennaro told NJ.com the vet feared one of the moving needles pricked Chester’s heart and agreed to a costly surgery.

But her dog died — and now the owner, a housekeeper, is stuck with a more than $19,500 vet bill.

“I really thought he was going to make it,” DeGennaro said. “I am devastated.”
