Police officers have visited the Brooklyn home where a 9-year-old girl was found dead: sources

Police had responded to more than a dozen reports of domestic disturbances at the Brooklyn apartment where a 9-year-old girl was found dead on Sunday, police sources said.
Police officers had been dispatched to the Crown Heights home for 14 separate reports of domestic violence before little Shalom Guifarro was found unresponsive and severely bruised around 1 p.m., the sources told the Post.
The coroner’s office on Monday ruled Shalom’s death a homicide and said she died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries.
According to sources, the dead girl’s 48-year-old mother was the alleged victim in most reports.
Several of the reports include complaints from the mother that her ex is allegedly molesting her, including claims that he vandalized her car in August and that she feels threatened.
She allegedly accused the man of child molestation – although police said they determined the children were not hurt, according to sources.
Now the woman, a city employee whose name is being kept secret by the Post, is being questioned by police, although sources say no charges have been filed in the incident.

The girl had “extensive bruising,” a wound and insect bites on her back, and swelling on the left side of her head, the sources said Monday.
Officials who arrived at the home on Sunday said the dead girl’s siblings told them Shalom had been “spanked” by her mother and had taken time off after she had a tantrum.
Police also found an extension cord in the hallway of the apartment, along with a tree branch and “a curved piece of furniture,” the sources said.

Neighbors also told police they heard “constant arguments” coming from the family’s home, the sources added.
“I heard a lot of screaming and fighting coming from the apartment,” neighbor Jason Rahimzadeh said Monday. “I’ve heard loud arguments at least 10 times where they screamed at the top of their lungs. The family kept to themselves.
“Everyone in the building is so nice and calm, but we all knew there was trouble in the apartment,” Rahimzadeh added.

Jessuan Sierra, the building’s supervisor, said the family had lived there for three years.
“The two girls were nice kids,” he said.
The mother works for the city’s human resources department and has hired a lawyer through her union, the sources said.
Officials said the child care administration has never been called to the home in the past.
It is not immediately known who the lawyer is.
