TARBORO, NC (WNCN) – A Rocky Mount man is facing a “multiple” charges after he led law enforcement in a chase in Edgecombe County Monday before his final arrest.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office said deputies spotted a dark gray Dodge Charger speeding in the area of Springfield Road near Rocky Mount.
The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, leading law enforcement on a chase that went across the county and into Tarboro, the sheriff’s office said.
At this point, the Tarboro Police Department joined the pursuit.
A Tarboro officer was injured when his vehicle was hit at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Howard Avenue.
MPs stopped at the scene of the accident to make sure everyone involved was okay while others tried to follow the suspect vehicle.
Later Monday, an off-duty deputy saw the Charger parked at the suspect’s home in Rocky Mount.
Rocky Mount police, along with Edgecombe County deputies, were able to take the suspect, identified as Major Lamont Perry, into custody at the home without incident, the sheriff’s office said.
Perry faces a “variety of charges, including felonies, fleeing to avoid arrest, and posting $15,000 bail,” the sheriff’s office said.
The condition of the injured officer is not known at this time.
