THIS is the moment police stormed an apartment where the remains of a woman had been kept for more than two years.
At least three police officers were filmed entering Sheila Seleoane’s apartment after neighbors complained more than 50 times about the smell of rotten meat.
Sheila, 61 years old, found on friday. She is said to have owed thousands of dollars in rent and her mailbox was flooded in Peckham, South London.
Neighbors said flies could also be heard buzzing in her apartment and was seen getting under the door while maggots infiltrated other apartments.
But they were accused by the housing association that the smell was a problem with the drainage system, that no one would come to investigate when the door was locked, and even that the woman had been removed from the apartment.
Harriet Harman, MP for Camberwell and Peckham, told Online email: “This is absolutely horrible; this kind of thing shouldn’t be happening. It’s horrible for this woman, her family, and the people who live in this property.”
She requested an explanation from housing association Peabody and called the response inadequate.
She added: “It looks like this woman owes rent. She’s not paying off these but Peabody is getting them from her pension.
“We need to get into this. It’s not something that should be taken as OK.”
Neighbor Ayesha Smith insists she contacted the housing association at least 50 times to no avail.
She told MyLondon: “The police came with a ram. It was scary when they went in. My son said it was frozen.
“They took some of her things. Her bag and coat left it outside the door and there were pink balloons that had been tied up but all the air had come out of them.”
Ms Smith said the 20-unit property was being demolished whenever they complained, adding: “It doesn’t seem like they care.
“What happened is horrible. All of our tenants have reported it time and time again but we are not being listened to.”
Another woman said she would find up to 50 dead flies in her apartment when she got home every day.
And Korrina White, 33, said her son was playing gingerbread in the hallway when he saw flies flying out from under Ms. Seleoane’s door.
Another young woman said: “Disgusting. I returned from a trip abroad in October 2019 and noticed there was a terrible stench in the building.
“It’s so bad, I have to put a towel under the door.”
Neighbors became increasingly concerned when her mail began to pile up and a notice requiring periodic gas testing appeared on her doorstep in 2020.
The neighbor added: “We called the housing association several times because we found it odd.
“Police arrived but they said a lot of people had moved out of London during the pandemic and she may be overseas.”
A bicycle was left on her doorstep a short time later and again neighbors complained after it had not been removed.
The Met Police said: “Concern has been raised about the welfare of a woman living at the address.
“Staff attended and forced entry. The body of a dead 61-year-old woman was found inside.
“The woman’s death is being treated as unknown but not suspicious.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
