Pokimane responds to Linus’ “hurtful” comments about her Twitch issues

Popular streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys has hit back at tech creator LinusTechTips’ hurtful comments after she suggested various ad placements on Twitch to make them less intrusive.
In April, a Bloomberg report revealed that new changes are being considered for this summer that could cut 20% of top streamers’ revenue on Twitch.
As the Amazon-owned streaming service continues to push for greater profitability, it’s been running more and more advertising over the years. Streamers and viewers agree that they’ve gotten a lot more pushy.
Complaints that ads are ruining the live experience have become much more common lately, leading to the platform’s top creators proposing changes. However, the idea of Pokimane was not well received by its co-creator LinusTechTips.

Twitch is the world’s largest live streaming platform.
in a (n Tweet from April 27thPokimane suggested that Twitch should implement advertising that doesn’t directly disrupt the content.
She added that she understands ads make the platform profitable, but stressed that adding ads in the sidebar, picture in picture or in a liner would make the viewing experience much better.
LinusTechTips didn’t name them directly, but clearly hit Pokimane in his latest podcast for her “horrible attitude” and mocked her in a female voice. He explained that the idea wouldn’t make nearly as much money, so it wouldn’t make sense.
Understandably, Pokimane was upset with Linus’ “hurtful” comments and hit back. “Hey, I just saw a clip of you discussing my tweet on your podcast,” Poki replied in a tweet. “I wanted to let you know that I felt like you read my tweet in a mocking tone and called me an ‘unnamed author’, although it was also weird and hurtful to reply to that tweet.”

Imane continued, breaking down Linus’ comments on the ads: “I understand that less aggressive forms of ads aren’t as profitable, but that doesn’t mean the current system is the best.
“In my opinion, live interaction further disrupts the essence of what makes streaming so special and is more detrimental to Twitch than the 50/50 split instead of 70/30.”
The tech star responded, apologizing and admitting he was “frustrated” because he knew firsthand how difficult it is to build a sustainable video platform. In an attempt to reconcile, Linus offered to help Pokimane with their newfound multi-platform freedom.
It’s not personal, but it was *rude*. I’m sorry for that.
As an apology, if you’re interested in exploring your newfound multi-platform freedom, we’ve dedicated significant development resources to multi-streaming and could help you and your team point to (continued).

Ads are certainly getting more intrusive on the streaming site, but as mentioned earlier, they are vital to the site’s profitability.
