PnB Rock’s hit song “Selfish” tops the Apple charts days after the rapper’s murder

Three days after his death, murdered rapper PnB Rock has the top of the charts ‘all to himself’.

The late artist’s 2016 hit “Selfish” was the most-streamed song in the US on Apple Music on Thursday and the second-most-listened song on the platform internationally.

The song — with a chorus of “I want you all to myself” — has a trap beat beneath PnB’s vocals and verses.

The 30-year-old Philadelphia native, whose real name is Rakim Hasheem Allen, was shot dead by a robber Monday afternoon at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles.

The suspect, who was still at large, had targeted PnB Rock for his jewelry and fled in a getaway car, according to The Los Angeles Times.

PnB Rock had had dinner with his girlfriend, who reportedly tagged his location on Instagram. Police are investigating whether their real-time public disclosure of his whereabouts led to the fatal robbery, the newspaper reported.

Atlantic Records, the musician’s label, released a statement Tuesday citing him as “more than an artist.”

“Rakim Allen was a great friend to many. He was also a wonderful father to two beautiful little girls,” Atlantic said.

“This news weighs heavily on our hearts and we are all saddened by this senseless loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”

PnB Rock is at least the seventh notable rapper to be murdered in the United States in the past year.
