PDC World Darts Championship – Day 1: Gerwyn Price and Adrian Lewis in action on opening day

The PDC WORLD DIGITAL CHAMPIONS kicks off Wednesday with defending champion Gerwyn Price.

There were three games in total, with Price, Adrian Lewis and Ricky Evans all being the top rated teams to win opening day.

Welshman Gerwyn Price is the defending champion

Ricky Evans v Nitin Kumar – 20:00

While he doesn’t shine at all stage events, Ricky Evans ‘Rapid’ has cheered a lot at Worlds over the years.

Whether it’s taking the worst jumps on this side of Wayne Mardle or hitting the 180 mark in time I need a complete stop for this sentence.

He shouldn’t be in trouble against Nitin Kumar in the Indian qualifiers, who is yet to win a set in his previous two encounters with Ally Pally.

In those games, Kumar averaged 77 and 90. Evans’ Match B was enough to win comfortably and with all his experience I expect the Kettering player to do a professional job. Karma.

With less juice in the market, match three wins, the most 180s and the highest paying appeal.

Tip: Ricky Evans Match Treble @ 8/11

Adrian Lewis v Matt Campbell – 21:00

One of the standout ties of the first round saw former two-time champion Lewis attempt to turn back the years against a dangerous young Canadian tennis player Campbell.

The latter lost his last leg in the first round 12 months ago and will have no motivation.

It was former two-time BDO champion Scott Waites who beat Campbell around that time and, after the match, said he had to play ‘the game of his life’ to win.

If Campbell can play anything like that, he has a chance to do sets.

I think this could go down to a few final-leg deciders and if it did, you’d think Campbell aka ‘Ginja Ninja’ would take the chances presented.

I wouldn’t advise against Lewis 3-2 with all the qualities he possesses, but I would play it safe and put Campbell +1.5 sets on the spread on the spread.

Tip: Campbell +1.5 Handicap – 11/10

Gerwyn Price v Ritchie Edhouse – 22:00

(This selection is based on the assumption that Ritchie Edhouse wins his first game. If he doesn’t, your bet will be void and your bet returned.)

All eyes will be on the defending champion on opening night and for whatever reason, he struggled to play the biggest tournament of the year.

His opening games in the last three years have averaged 90, 91 and 89 with two wins 3-2 and loss to Nathan Aspinall.

Edhouse has nothing to lose and should be delighted by the fact that in his only Worlds appearance two years ago, he won his opening match.

The road to the World Championship is littered with banana peels and potential shocks and while I’m not suggesting that Edhouse will work miracles, he has a well-deserved chance to make one.

Tip: Edhouse + 2.5 Handicap – Score
